Applications are invited for a 2-year Postdoctoral Research Fellow position in Optimization in the School of Mathematics at the University of Edinburgh, United Kingdom. The successful candidate will join the Edinburgh Research Group in Optimization (http://www.maths.ed.ac.uk/ERGO/) and will be part of a team working on "Accelerated Coordinate Descent Methods for Big Data Problems".

The fellow will work closely with Dr Peter Richtarik; visiting team members include Prof Srebro (Chicago) and Prof Nesterov (Louvain-la-Neuve).

Position Start Date: September 1, 2013 (it might be possible to accommodate a later starting date; up to January 1, 2014)

The ideal candidate will be an enthusiastic and creative individual with a Ph.D. in Operations Research, Machine Learning, Applied Mathematics, Computer Science, or a related field and will have strong track record. Individuals with background in gradient methods for large-scale optimization and good programming skills are particularly encouraged to apply.
